In August 2011, we have created a microsite for Samsung dedicated to Solid State Drive. SSD (Solid State Drive) is a mass storage device (drive) which is used for data storage and is built basing on the flash technology. Main purpose for the microsite is to educate the consumer market about the advantages of the SSD technology and its main technical features, to compare them with the traditional technology – HDD (Hard Disc Drive) and to raise awareness and build new image of Samsung’s SSD products. The website presents results of performance tests, strength tests and battery tests of the SSD drives (basing on the comparison between HDD and SSD drives). One can also find on the website useful tutorials (for example, on how to replace the old HDD drive with the new SSD drive).
In spring, Samsung has decided to stop the production of traditional drives. Therefore, they have sold the whole department responsible for the HDD drives to Seagate. Now, Samsung is concentrating on the production of SSD drives. In May, the first Samsung SSD products had their premier on the Polish market. What is more, few weeks ago, Samsung has introduced the SSD Upgrade Kit, which helps laptop and PC udders with replacing the traditional drives with the new, energy-efficient and long-lasting SSD drives.
The global market of SSD drives is growing very rapidly, at a rate of several percents per year. According to the research company iSupply, the value of the global SSD drive market has amounted to 2,2 mld dollars last year, in 2011 it will almost double (up to 4,4 mld dollars) and in 2015 it will increase to about 7,5 mld dollars.
